All four corners of this island country are blessed with countless beautiful beaches and coral reefs fit for both experienced divers and just-for-fun snorkelers, making it a burgeoning holiday destination for coast-dwelling Australians. East Coast
Belle Mare Beach
The East Coast’s succession of emerald-coloured lagoons and beaches makes it a favourite for sand gropers visiting the island, with the several kilometres-long white sandy haven of Belle Mare beach the biggest drawcard.
Ile aux Cerfs
The teeny tiny island of Ile aux Cerf is known for two things – being the island’s ultimate water sports destination, and for its incredibly picturesque beaches. This charming spot also features a lively boat-house, restaurants, a tortoise farm and a well-known 18-hole golf course designed by the famous golf champion Bernhard Langer. You can reach Ile aux Cerfs by speedboat, pirogue, glass bottom boat, catamaran and even a pirate ship, if you’re in the mood for a bit of fun.
Bras d’Eau
A small bay inside the lagoon of Poste Lafayette on the north east coast, Bras d’Eau is a public beach that has a view of the south, so you can witness both sunrise and the sunset from this spot, making it particularly special. At night, it is also the best place in Mauritius from which to see the Milky Way.

North Coast
Grand Bay
Grand Bay is perhaps Mauritius’ biggest tourist attraction, in part because it is the starting point for boat trips to the northern islands. But Grand Bay has plenty to offer all on its own thanks to its two beaches, one of which is what Mauritians call “La Cuvette” or “a discreet hideaway”– the best type of beach of all, in our opinion!

Trou aux Biches

Mont Choisy
This long, curvy beach continues from Pointe aux Canonniers to Grand Bay and extends all the way to another spot you’ll want to visit: the divine Pereybere public beach.
Casita and Bain Boeuf
Just a short walk over the stones either side of Pereybere’s public beach are the quiet and secluded Casita and Bain Boeuf private beaches with their clear blue waters and exquisite views.

South Coast
Blue Bay
You won’t find back-to-back beaches on the south coast like you will on the east and up north, but the few that do exist here are particularly striking, and Blue Bay is no exception.

Gris Gris
Gris Gris is a small and spotless beach with a beautiful coral reef close to the shore and impressive waves just a few meters away.

Ile aux Bénitiers
Another beautiful island with sandy beaches and surrounded by turquoise sea, the two kilometre, flat island of Ile aux Bénitiers is set in a lagoon near Le Morne on the south west of the island, where it is safe to go swimming and snorkelling.
